Kohunlich

Kohunlich is a large archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, on the Yucatán Peninsula, covering an area of 21 acres and surrounded by dense rain forest, containing about 200 mounds most of them unexcavated. This site was settled around 200 BC and most of the structures were built in the Early Classic period from about 250 to 600 AD. This city was extremely planned and engineered, its raised platforms and pyramids, citadels, courtyards and plazas are all laid out to channel drainage into a system of cisterns and an enormous reservoir designed to collect rainwater.
