Praça XV de Novembro

C05 This is the real center of Rio and the home of one of the oldest markets in town. In the early days of the city, it was located on the waterfront. Find local handcrafts, foods, ceramics, paintings, coins and stamps here. In the center of the square there is a chafariz (fountain) by the famous Brazilian sculptor Mestre Valentim. Sprung from politial and social life, this praça is named for Brazil's first president, Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca.
