Ilha Grande - Big Island

IlhagrandeIlha Grande was discovered on January 6th 1502, and the legend tells a story about a black corsair that sought refugee on the island and was saved by his love for a native. It is 2 hs by ship from Angra dos Reis and it is the biggest island on the bay. A real tropical paradise and in part a natural reserve, the island has some of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil, many roads that go through the Atlantic Bush that covers the whole island. A forest in the middle of the sea, hundreds of dessertic beaches, and an ecological sanctuary, with 95% of the forest protected. It also has a lot of ship wrecks, testimony of the felonies committed by the pirates at those times, and it used to accommodate prissioners. Now it is a huge touristic center of eco tourism and the relax spot for the higher social classes from Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
