Almaty
Almaty is the former capital of Kazakhstan and its biggest city, most of the diplomatic representation keep their embassy in Almaty, even though since 1998 the capital of the country is Astana. Almaty is also the economic, financial and cultural center of Central Asia, it is a tourist destination, and has a large student and expat community with a wide diversity of cultures and citizen, like Kazakhs, Russians, Uzbeks, Germans, Poles, Chinese and more. The Presidential Palace and the Kazakh Museum are its main landmarks, one across the other, and don't miss the The 28 Panfilov Heroes Memorial Park, which honors the men from Kazakhstan who died on the WWII against the Nazi.
